According to economic expert Eike Hamer, the demand to stop Nord Stream 2 is nothing more than lobbying for transatlantic interests.
In an interview with zuerst.de, Eike Hamer, an economic expert, political scientist, entrepreneur and board member of Mittelstandsinstitut Niedersachsen e.V., Deutsche Mittelstandsstiftung e.V. and Derek Oil and Gas Corporation, said that the current German politicians’ demands for a halt to the construction of the Russian-German Nord Stream 2 pipeline in the Baltic Sea is a clear example of transatlantic lobbying.
“The welfare of Germany, the EU (and Europe) is secondary to them”, – Hamer said, – “The possible freezing of the Nord Stream 2 construction, which has to be approved by the EU Parliament, will be disastrous for Germany as well as for the European Union: the trust of a much-needed partner in the market, such as Russia, will be lost, as will the trust of other countries that cooperate with Moscow in various agreements and economic partnerships.”
In Hammer’s view, an attempt to mix business and politics, a concept that was proposed by EU Commission Head Ursula von der Leyen in her recent speech entitled “Regulation on the European Union”, is also not helpful. The part of her speech under consideration is in fact frankly “embarrassing” and simply contains a series of unsubstantiated allegations against Russia without any evidence.
