The Su-27 fighter was raised to intercept American and Swedish military aircraft over the Baltic Sea. This was reported at the National Defense Management Center of Russia.
“Russian means of airspace control over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea have detected two air targets approaching the Russian state border. To identify air targets and prevent violation of the state border of Russia, a Su-27 fighter from the air defense forces of the Baltic Fleet was taken into the air, ” the message says.
It is indicated that the Su-27 crew identified the air targets as the US Navy’s P-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft and the Swedish Air Force Gulfstream reconnaissance aircraft and escorted them over the Baltic Sea.
“After the turn of foreign military aircraft from the state border of Russia, the Russian fighter returned safely to the home airfield,” the message adds.
It is noted that the flight of the Russian Su-27 took place in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace. No violations of the Russian border were allowed.
