Merkel supports the creation of a European refugee camp in Lesbos

German Chancellor Angela Merkel supported the creation by the European Union of a new refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos.

This would be a step in the right direction towards transferring responsibility in this regard to the European level, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Monday, September 14 in Berlin.

In turn, Merkel indicated that a number of issues still need to be clarified in order to create a European refugee reception center in Lesvos. In particular, the transfer of national sovereign rights to the European Union is necessary, she said.
