Josep Borrel distanced himself from the decision on Nord Stream 2

The head of European diplomacy noted that it is not within the EU’s remit to stop the construction of the gas pipeline.

Josep Borrel distanced himself from the decision on Nord Stream 2.

Interfax reports that in his closing remarks after the debate on the incident with Navalny at the European Parliament on Tuesday, European diplomacy chief Joseph Borrel said that the termination of the Nord Stream 2 project as the EU’s response to the incident was not within the remit of the European Union.

“Some of you say that the future of Nord Stream must end. Once again: it is not our responsibility”, –  Borrel said,  – “the Commission has never been very enthusiastic about this pipeline.”

As a reminder, high-ranking officials in Germany began to allow their support for the Nord Stream 2 project to be withdrawn after Alexei Navalny’s Russian politician was ‘poisoned’ with organophosphorus toxin from the Novichok Group. The Bundeswehr military laboratory in Germany had previously concluded that this was the poison.
