Cyprus and the U.S. signed a memorandum on further cooperation in the field of defense

The memorandum was signed at the presidential palace in Nicosia by Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.

The document was signed within the framework of bilateral cooperation in the fields of security and defense with the aim of creating a training center in Larnaca, which will be called the Cyprus Center for Land, Maritime and Port Security.

The Cypriot Presidential Chancellery said in a statement that “it will be a property owned by a country that has already received an initial amount of funding from the US government to build and operate it.” This initiative falls under the statement of intent signed between the governments of the two countries in November 2018.
