Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian called “unfounded accusations” of the statement made by Microsoft, an American company, claiming that hackers from Russia, Iran and China were allegedly involved in cyberattacks on people and organisations that are related to the upcoming US presidential elections. He made this statement at a regular briefing on Friday.
“As for the presidential elections in the USA, we have repeatedly repeated that this is an internal United States affair. We have no interest in interfering [in internal affairs], and we have never interfered [in them]”, – he said. – “I think Microsoft should not make such unfounded accusations and [stop] bringing China into this”, – concluded the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman.
On Thursday, the US corporation Microsoft made a statement that hackers from Russia, Iran and China are involved in cyber attacks on people and organizations related to the upcoming presidential elections in the US. Microsoft claims that the hacker group Strontium, also known as Fancy Bear and allegedly operating from Russia, “has carried out attacks against 200 organisations, including campaign headquarters, human rights groups, parties and political consultants. The groups, operating from China and Iran, allegedly attacked dignitaries associated with the elections and campaign headquarters of incumbent American leader Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joseph Biden.
For his part, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolfe stated that he shares the view of the American corporation.
“I approve of Microsoft’s efforts to protect democracy from these attacks”, – Wolf said in a statement issued by the press service of his department.
The next general elections in the USA will be held on November 3. They will elect the President and Vice-President, all 435 members of the House of Representatives and a third of the U.S. Senate, governors of 13 states and territories. Democrat Joseph Biden will compete with Republican Donald Trump. Trump and Biden’s partners in the campaign race, i.e. candidates for the US Vice-President, are Michael Pence and Kamala Harris.
