It was noted that the situation on the line of de facto control in Ladakh “does not meet the interests of both sides” and their border agencies must continue the dialogue.
At a meeting held yesterday in Moscow, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Indian counterpart Subramanyam Jaishankar agreed to normalize the situation on the border between the two countries in Ladakh, Interfax reports.
“The foreign ministers of the two countries agreed that both sides should follow a number of important agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries regarding the development of Indian relations, including not allowing the differences between the two countries to escalate into conflict”, – the joint statement of the parties following the meeting said.
They also noted that the situation on the line of de facto control in Ladakh “does not meet the interests of both sides” and their border agencies should continue the dialogue, as soon as possible to realise the mutual withdrawal, maintain the necessary distance between them and mitigate the current situation.
The parties agreed to continue to liaise and hold consultations on Sino-Indian border issues, as well as to expedite the completion of the development of new measures to build mutual confidence, preserve and enhance peace and tranquility in the border area.
