The UN has demanded that the U.S. not destroy START

The United States unilaterally withdrew from the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate and Small Missiles, provoking increased tension in the world. The START Treaty should not suffer the same fate, said UN Secretary General António Guterres.

According to him, the Russian-American Treaty on Measures for Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms should be extended regardless of whether Washington succeeds in connecting Beijing to the agreement.

As is known, this is one of the US conditions, although China has repeatedly stated that it does not intend to limit the development of its military industrial complex in this way. The expert community also believes that the US authorities put forward such a condition, understanding China’s position. The US simply found an excuse to terminate another strategic agreement.

“I believe that the START Treaty should be extended regardless of what happens to China”, –  Guterres said. – “The broadest possible nuclear disarmament framework with the participation of all interested countries is now of great importance”.
