German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas allowed the introduction of personal EU sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko if he “does not change course and does not enter into dialogue with the opposition”.
“We have repeatedly asked Lukashenko to enter into dialogue with all national forces. This did not happen, on the contrary: waves of repression roll over one after another on the opposition, which wants to enter into dialogue. This is the wrong direction”, – Maas said.
Maas recalled that Germany is actively working with other EU states on a package of sanctions.
“If Lukashenko does not change course, we in the EU will react”, – the head of German diplomacy said.
