The fugitive ex-president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, responsible for the armed conflict in 2008, was nominated as a candidate for the post of prime minister of the republic.
The authors of the provocative initiative were members of the United National Movement party, which was founded by Saakashvili himself.
“The United National Movement and all the parties that are part of the opposition union have decided to nominate him for the post of Prime Minister of Georgia”, – said on Monday, September 7, the head of the UNM Grigol Vashadze.
As News Front previously reported, in August Saakashvili announced his plans to return to Georgia, although he was sentenced there in absentia to imprisonment.
“We, of course, will welcome if Mikheil Saakashvili finds strength and comes to Georgia. The procedure for detention at the border and a Georgian prison await him”, – said Georgian Minister of Justice Teya Tsulukiani
Director of the Center for Islamic Studies of the Caucasus Shota Apkhaidze, in turn, noted that Saakashvili has only one chance to return to Georgian politics – a coup.
