As TASS reports, the extradition case of the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, to the U.S. was resumed on Monday at the Old Bailey Central Criminal Court in London
Assange was taken to Old Bailey from Belmarsh Strict Security Prison, where he has been held since last April, after the Ecuadorian embassy in London refused him asylum, which was granted for seven years.
Judge Baritzer is not tasked with reaching a verdict on Assange’s charges, but will have to decide whether Washington’s request complies with the British-American extradition agreement in force since 2007. This document prohibits the extradition of persons accused of “political crimes,” which has determined the main line of defense.
