Large-scale unauthorized rally takes place in Minsk

Traditionally, pro-Polish opposition forces were activated on the weekend, a rally is taking place in the center of Minsk, some of the protesters approached the Palace of Independence – the residence of Alexander Lukashenko.

A crowd of protesters numbering tens of thousands of people approached the Palace of Independence, the residence of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk. At the approach to the residence, riot policemen with shields stood in a cordon, blocking the path of the protesters. A barbed wire is stretched across the avenue.

The column of protesters stretched more than 2 km from the Sports Palace. People do not pay attention to the heavy rain that has started in Minsk and continue to gather.

Loudspeakers sound warnings about the illegal action and demands to disperse. In addition, on Pobediteley Avenue, a broadcast was turned on with a story about the history of the white-red-white flag in the 20th century. The announcer, in particular, explains that this symbolism is prohibited, that the flag was used by Belarusian collaborators during the Great Patriotic War and thus reflects the fascist ideology. They also emphasize that this flag “will never be the personification of Belarus.”

The situation around the Palace of Independence remains generally calm. The demonstrators chant: “Come out” and “How much is conscience.” Neither side takes any action.
