Monument to Soviet soldiers was again desecrated in Lithuania

According to “Sputnik Lithuania”, on the eve of the vandals doused with red paint and wrote offensive inscriptions on the monument to the Red Army at the local cemetery.

“An employee of the embassy has already visited the site and talked to the city leadership. He made sure that the monument was promptly cleaned of traces of paint. We also received assurances that it will be painted in the coming days. This incident is being dealt with by the police, a case has been initiated on the fact of vandalism, ” Russian diplomats explained.

As stated in the diplomatic mission, cases of vandalism in relation to the monuments and burials of Soviet soldiers who liberated Lithuania from the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War do not occur very often in this republic. According to diplomats, this can be considered a clear confirmation of the “civilized, human attitude of the overwhelming majority of the inhabitants of this country to the memory of the victims.”

“At the same time, one cannot but see the massive processing of public consciousness carried out by the Lithuanian authorities in the spirit of altering the history of the war and its results, insulting the memory of the Red Army soldiers. Apparently, this incident was the result of this “work”, ”the embassy stressed.
