In Beirut, a month after the explosion, life signs were found under the rubble

Special equipment for rescuers found signs of life under the rubble of a building in the Mar Mikhail district of Beirut, which was destroyed in a powerful explosion in the port a month ago, but it is unlikely to be a survivor. The Lebanese Civil Defense volunteers told the story.

“Residents of the area turned to civil defense because of the strong smell that comes from the building. We don’t have special equipment, and we asked the Chilean rescue team working in Lebanon to help. The dogs found the presumed location of the bodies. After the special equipment, the dogs showed signs of life. We cordoned off the place, called for silence, and the device showed up to 20 heartbeats per minute. I doubt it could be human. It could be some kind of animal”, –  said one of the volunteers.

According to the agency’s interlocutor, the rescue work at 23.30 was suspended while waiting for equipment that removed large concrete sections that threatened the lives of rescuers. From 1.30 to the present day, the search and rescue operation continues.
