The International Criminal Court investigates crimes against humanity, and the United States often commits them, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, wrote on social networks.
The Venezuelan leadership considers the economic sanctions imposed by the U.S. on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda, as a de facto recognition by Washington of responsibility for the crimes investigated by the institution. This was announced on Wednesday by the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza.
“The International Criminal Court investigates crimes against humanity, and the United States often commits them. The U.S. “imposes sanctions” against the court prosecutor and forces judges to evade the investigation of terrible crimes. This is an illegal practice that amounts to a confession of guilt”, – he tweeted.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury Department said it is imposing restrictive measures against ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and the head of the Office of Legal Affairs, Complementarity and Cooperation, Fakiso Mochochoco. The sanctions are linked to the court’s decision to investigate possible crimes committed in Afghanistan, including by U.S. military personnel.
