The State Department considers it important to continue the dialogue with Russia

There will always be issues of geostrategic importance in the world, said George Kent, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia.

It is important to continue the dialogue between Russia and the USA, as well as Western countries, because there will always be issues of geostrategic importance in the world. This opinion was expressed Wednesday by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia George Kent, speaking at a video conference organized by the German Marshall Foundation in Washington.

“I think it’s important for the U.S. and Western countries to continue dialogue with Russia because there will always be issues of geostrategic importance where our interests should coincide”,-  the diplomat said. As an example, he cited the situation around DPRK, Libya, Venezuela, as well as arms control negotiations. – “The issue of negotiations on arms control and strategic stability is among the interests of both our countries. <…> These negotiations will continue”, –  Kent emphasized.

“We are in a political dialogue with Russia, even if we do not reach an agreement. It is important for us to continue this dialogue, even if Russia is taking steps that may block any possibility for further progress”, – said the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.
