The ICC on Wednesday condemned the economic sanctions imposed by the U.S. on a prosecutor and a member of the prosecutor’s office.
U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo called the International Criminal Court a group of politicians and corrupt officials. Pompeo said this on Wednesday on the air of the Fox Business channel.
The head of the U.S. foreign ministry was asked to comment on the U.S. Treasury Department’s announcement of restrictive measures against ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and head of the Department of Justice, Complementarity and Cooperation Fakiso Mochochoco.
“This is a group of politicians in The Hague who threaten our guys who have served and fought in afghanistan. It’s a lawless court of law with frankly corrupt lawyers who threaten to try Americans who fought for freedom in afghanistan. This is unacceptable”, – Pompeo argued.
“We have begun to put real pressure on the court. The U.S. was not involved in the agreements establishing this court and wants nothing to do with it”, – the secretary of state continued. He promised to keep his hand on the pulse of events until there was complete certainty that U.S. citizens had no jurisdiction over the ICC in The Hague.
