Such a statement was made at a briefing on Wednesday by a representative of the German Foreign Ministry, Christopher Burger.
“Of course, we are interested in further development of relations with Russia, but Russia must create the appropriate conditions for this”, – he said. Burger recalled that Germany’s cooperation with Russia in recent years has been overshadowed by such events as “the murder of a Georgian citizen in Berlin, a hacker attack against the Bundestag, the reunification of the Crimea with Russia.”
German government spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer, for her part, recalled that Chancellor Angela Merkel was “in constant personal telephone dialogue with President [Vladimir] Putin on all important bilateral and international issues. “Undoubtedly, the German government considers Russia an important player in international politics”, – Demmer said.
