The British police detained 65 people on the first day of the Extinction Rebellion protests in London. This was reported in Scotland Yard.
“65 people were detained, but this figure may not be final, because the police operation is ongoing”, – the police said.
The place of detention was Parliament Square in the center of the British capital. Despite the ban on blocking vehicle traffic, hundreds of demonstrators settled in the middle of the roadway, which immediately led to traffic jams. According to the Daily Mail, a 92-year-old ecoactivist was among the detainees. A total of about 3,000 people took part in the protest action.
The demonstrators promise to continue the action in London for ten days, but the police have already warned that they will immediately stop all attempts by demonstrators to obstruct motorists.
