On Monday, August 31, angry Iraqi demonstrators stormed the Al-Dijla TV building in downtown Baghdad and set it on fire to protest against broadcasting music on the channel during Ashura religious day.
Al-Dijla is reportedly owned by Jamal Karbuli, the head of the National Movement for Development and Reform party, who has already been issued with an arrest warrant by a court for broadcasting music at a time when Shia Muslims were mourning the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.
A security source told BasNews that dozens of protesters stormed the TV building, broke equipment and set the facility on fire.
