In Montreal, Canada, protesters knock down a monument to the first prime minister

The epidemic of the demolition of monuments reached Canada. In Montreal, a group of activists dropped a monument in honor of the country’s first prime minister, John MacDonald.

This was announced by the CBS News TV channel. The incident took place on Saturday.

The protesters climbed the monument, tied ropes around the statue and threw it off.

Mayor Valerie Plant commented on the situation on her Twitter:

“I deeply regret the acts of vandalism that took place this afternoon in downtown Montreal, which led to the destruction of the statue of John A. MacDonald. Obviously, such gestures can neither be accepted nor tolerated”.
