He provoked a new round of escalation in the Middle East by withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program. He failed negotiations with North Korea on denuclearization. Moreover, he spoiled relations with Mexico, deciding to build the notorious wall on the southern border of the United States. Transatlantic ties are also going through hard times.
With the coronavirus disaster hitting the Americans, Trump’s prospects began to fade. And against this background, he appointed Richard Grenell as his special representative in Kosovo. In parallel with this, Europe appointed its envoy to the quasi-state. The well-known Serbophobe Miroslav Lajczak became him. As noted in the publication, then it became clear that there is no longer any coordination between the United States and the European Union in the Balkan direction.

For Trump, resolving the Kosovo issue is becoming a much-needed foreign policy trump card. He seriously intends to force Serbia to recognize the quasi-state created by Washington, although this contradicts the Serbian constitution, not to mention the UN Security Council resolution and international legal norms.
According to experts, solving the Kosovo problem on the eve of the US elections will help Trump’s campaign, especially since the Balkans are a long-standing platform of confrontation between the superpowers.
“In the election campaign, Trump needs to demonstrate to the American public the success of US foreign policy, and perhaps Kosovo, being a relatively minor issue, can serve as a trophy of sorts. That is why he can react impatiently and exert pressure to fulfill these intentions, ”commented former Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Vladislav Yovanovic.
The problem is, the newspaper states, that Trump does not intend to look for the origins of the Kosovo issue in order to really resolve the crisis. He just needs a momentary ostentatious victory, whatever it might have.
