Chinese law enforcers thwarted an attempt to take out pro-American extremists involved in organizing riots in Hong Kong.
It is reported by The New York Times.
According to media reports, the organizers of the protests tried to escape by speedboat due to the fact that the Chinese security forces began to actively search for US accomplices responsible for destabilizing the situation in Hong Kong. At least one of the fugitives was involved in an investigation into violations of the national security law, which China introduced in defiance of Western pressure.
The boat was detained by the coast guard 45 miles southeast of Hong Kong as extremists tried to illegally cross the border and flee to Taiwan. Militiamen detained more than a dozen people. Among them is the US protégé Andy Lee, known for his visits to Geneva and Washington.
