The Guardian explains why Democrats fail to oust Trump

Neither a well-directed Democratic convention nor a spectacular speech by Joe Biden reduced Donald Trump’s chances of re-election, although some sociologists are trying to convince Americans otherwise.

Writes about this edition “The Guardian”.

The 77-year-old presidential candidate’s neat and carefully crafted speech was addressed to moderate Democrats and even some Republicans in wavering states. The gamble may seem justified. In practice, it is only able to raise Biden’s ratings for a while. At the same time, the audience that followed Biden’s speech was 21% lower compared to Hillary Clinton’s performance in 2016.

“Few Democrats since the 2016 fiasco have consoled themselves with polls that show Biden has a significant, but not absolute advantage,” the newspaper writes. “The convention’s orientation toward moderation was a huge gamble, the success of which cannot be measured until we know the results of the elections.”

Biden’s supporters are forced to rely on controversial theories that wavering states have Trump loyalists ready to defect to Democrats. In practice, such inferences simply do not take into account the factor of American political identity, when the choice is predetermined by race, religion, or even place of residence.

“It would seem that Biden’s convincing speech at the convention destroyed the claims of the Republicans, who spent millions of dollars, that he is a dumbass in the last stages of decrepitude. But Republican adherents will continue to believe this, ”the article says.

At the same time, The Guardian emphasizes that the re-election of Donald Trump in November can be seen as the “last breath” of American democracy.
