Anti-government protests continue in Libya

The Libyan capital Tripoli is hosting protests against the Government of National Accord (GNC). Participants in the rallies call the Cabinet responsible for a significant deterioration of the socio-economic situation, impoverishment of the general public, and rampant corruption.

Protesters demand the resignation of the NTC led by Prime Minister Faiz Sarrage. Around the government building and other strategically important facilities are reinforced outfits of law enforcement officers.

Large crowds of government opponents gathered on Martyrs’ Square. They chant: ‘People want the fall of the regime! Long live Libya!”. In some areas of Tripoli, law enforcement agencies used tear gas to push back the protesters.

On Sunday, MIA forces used firearms to disperse the protesters. Several dead and a couple dozen wounded were reported. In addition, mass arrests of street protesters and rioters took place in Tripoli last night.
