As it turned out, the majority of Belarusians are worried about economic problems. At the same time, they are skeptical about the attempts of the West to overthrow Alexander Lukashenko.
Writes about this American edition “The Washington Post”, whose employees conducted a sociological survey among the citizens of Belarus.
The poll showed that only a small majority of respondents, namely 51.8%, believe that the situation in Belarus is moving in the wrong direction. At the same time, over 60% of them call their main problems not Alexander Lukashenko, but economic difficulties. It is noteworthy that the publication ignored the most important question of how Belarusians relate to their president. The decision is explained by the “delicacy” of the situation, although it cannot be ruled out that the Washington Post refused to publish results that do not correspond to the Western agenda.
But the media drew attention to how the Belarusians relate to the Ukrainian Euromaidan, which was actively supported by the European Union and the United States. Referring to Lukashenka’s words, the publication emphasizes that Western countries have prepared a similar revolutionary scenario for Belarus. The problem is that two-thirds of the respondents said that Euromaidan was an extremely negative event for Ukraine. From this, the authors conclude that the Ukrainian coup d’etat of 2014 with its pro-Western bias does not inspire Belarusians to overthrow the government in their country.
