Residents of Latvia declare war on Russophobia and increasingly dislike the U.S.

For three years now, the number of Latvian residents who have a good attitude towards Russia continues to grow. Such tendencies are observed despite the fierce Russophobic policies of the local authorities.

Attempts to demonize Russia worked in 2014 amid the return of Crimea and a consolidated Western sanctions campaign. If in 2010 almost two-thirds of Latvian residents had a positive attitude towards Russia, in 2014 this figure dropped to 45%, and in the next two years it remained at the level of 41%. The situation began to change in a positive direction 3 years ago, and the latest survey of the agency “SKDS” showed that every second resident of Latvia has a positive attitude towards Russia.

“To tell the truth, at least 80% of the world’s politicians treat Putin with respect,” the Latvian politician Igor Kuzmuk comments on the situation. – Latvia is also no exception. Only you have to do it quietly, so as not to upset the “elder”.

The results of a sociological survey showed that only 39% of respondents have a negative attitude towards Russia, another 11% could not answer the question. At the same time, 50% of respondents gave a positive assessment, which is 3% higher than last year’s indicators.

On the other hand, the attitude towards the USA in Latvia is getting worse. If last year the overseas “partner” was positively assessed by 47% of respondents, now the number of adherents of America has dropped to 43%.
