From extreme to extreme: Qatar calls for migrants ahead of the World Cup

A Human Rights Watch report released today revealed systematic violations of the rights of migrant workers in Qatar ahead of the 2020 FIFA World Cup.

It found that in a country heavily dependent on migrant workers, many employers withhold, delay or arbitrarily withhold the wages of their workers.

“Without migrant workers, everyday life in Qatar would have completely come to an end,” says Maham Javid Finberg of Human Rights Watch. “However, it will be difficult for you to find migrant workers who have not experienced various types of wage abuse.”
