The United States is putting forward unrealistic conditions for maintaining START. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
At the same time, he called the negotiations with the United States on the preservation of the START Treaty “exhausting”.
“They are now conducting such grueling negotiations with us on keeping the Strategic Arms Treaty in force. We proposed to extend its validity for five years, as provided by the document itself, without any preconditions. The Americans in the negotiations led by my deputy Sergey Ryabkov last week in Vienna with the US special envoy Marshall Bellingsley, insist on conditions that, frankly, are simply unrealistic, including the requirement that this document or some future document must China has joined”, – Lavrov said.
