Teachers’ strike coming in New York: Authorities can’t guarantee their safety

Once the epicenter of the American coronavirus epidemic, New York intends to open schools for a full-fledged educational process on September 10. But the threat of infection is still too great, and the authorities cannot ensure the safety of workers in the field.

Writes about this edition “The Washington Post”.

The city’s mayor, Democrat and notorious liberal Bill de Blasio, who urged New Yorkers to boycott the quarantine at the dawn of the pandemic, said last week that schools would reopen on September 10. The statement came against the backdrop of how the number of people infected in the United States exceeded 5.5 million, and over 170 thousand Americans died from the coronavirus.

Against this backdrop, the United Federation of Teachers, which includes 75,000 educators, threatened a mass strike if the authorities did not fulfill a number of health conditions. In particular, the union requires all students and employees to be tested for coronavirus and provide school health centers with everything they need.

Federation head Michael Mulgrew even threatened the city with a lawsuit and a strike if the mayor tried to force teachers to go to work. According to him, the problem is that the authorities simply cannot provide the necessary security conditions in a pandemic.
