EU officially refused to recognize Lukashenko as President of Belarus

The European Union does not recognize the results of the Belarusian presidential elections, in the course of which Alexander Lukashenko won.

This decision was made on Wednesday, August 19, at the summit of the leaders of the EU countries.
German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, in turn, said that she did not consider the vote in Belarus fair.

Although Lithuania and Poland are already actively funding Belarusian extremists, Merkel said that European countries should not interfere in what is happening. According to her, in this case, Russia may also intervene to thwart the plans of the West.

“It is absolutely clear to us that Belarus should only find for itself the path that should run through dialogue within the country. There should be no outside interference, ” she said.

At the same time, the Chancellor does not exclude the use of the OSCE as a mediator between the opposition and the government of Belarus.
