Members of the army of Mali have staged an armed rebellion

Shots were heard in a military unit near Bamako, the capital of Mali.
Malian soldiers in West Africa have rebelled against the current authorities of the country and are now on their way to the capital, the city of Bamako, the Norwegian Embassy in the country said, warning the Norwegians of the danger.

“The embassy has received reports of a mutiny in the armed forces and troops are on their way to Bamako. The Norwegians should be careful and stay home until the situation is clear, if possible”.

It is worth adding that Mali has been in a state of emergency since 2015, for which reason the embassy has put in place appropriate security measures.

Earlier, some Western embassies reported an insurgency at a military base in the Kati area. The source stated that the mutineers had arrested several ministers and high-ranking officers and had taken them to an unknown location.
