When the West tries to implement a revolutionary scenario in Belarus, one should remember who will have the last word.
This is what the Bloomberg agency says.
Alexander Lukashenko ruled in Belarus for a quarter of a century, but his game has come to an end, the media say. Although the official voting results say Lukashenko won, his opponents argue the opposite. The opposition, supported by Western countries, is rocking the situation in the country, intending to overthrow the president. From this Bloomberg concludes that the fate of Belarus is not in the hands of Lukashenko.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, though ready to proclaim herself head of state, is also not the person who will determine the future of Belarus. Having escaped to Lithuania, she can still campaign and incite people to a coup.
“But it does not have the hard power needed to make the liberation of the country reliable and lasting”, – emphasize the agency.
In fact, the Russian leader Vladimir Putin will have the last word. Bloomberg believes that to deny it “would be a self-deception. One of his key ideas is the revival of the Russian world, which was lost after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Putin is dissatisfied with NATO’s attempts to invade Russia’s sphere of influence and is ready to confront Western ambitions. That is why he was an ardent opponent of all the color revolutions that were provoked in the post-Soviet space. That is why Putin will not stand idly by as the West tries to take another former Soviet republic into its hands.
“Belarus has even stronger power over Putin’s irredentist imagination. That’s where he has long wanted to start recreating the Russian world on the basis of a 21-year plan to unite Belarus and Russia into one Union State”, – reads the publication.
The agency recognizes that further developments are difficult to predict. However, both Putin and Lukashenko have already made it clear that they are ready to resist the attempts of the West to carry out a coup d’etat in Belarus. Moreover, one cannot rule out the imminent integration of the two countries within the framework of the Union State, especially if the pressure of the USA and the European Union increases. If the West manages to overthrow Lukashenko earlier, Putin may resort to a reserve option with “little green men,” assures Bloomberg.
“And nothing that the EU or the U.S. say or do will stop him. The West has already imposed sanctions against him since his invasion of Crimea; adding a few more will not impress this modern KGB-trained king. After all, Putin knows that NATO will not fight because of Belarus or Ukraine”, – the agency concluded.
Attempted coup d’état in Belarus
August 9, presidential elections were held in Belarus, resulting in the victory of Alexander Lukashenko. Western countries, for which the Belarusian leader had been a hindrance for a long time, did not put up with the voting results. As a result, pre-planned riots broke out in Belarus.
Attempts by law enforcement agencies to keep the situation under control turned into clashes with radicals. At the same time, Western media, actively covering the protests, focus on the actions of law enforcers against “peaceful” demonstrators, as it was during the coup d’etat in Ukraine in 2014.
At present, the European countries together with the USA are taking the side of the protesters. They refuse to recognize the election results. The headquarters of the pro-western opposition leader, Svetlana Tihanovska, is preparing for lengthy protests aimed at toppling the government. A committee for “power transit” has already been formed there. Tikhanovskaya herself is hiding in Lithuania.
Sunday, a week after the presidential elections, a rally of supporters of Alexander Lukashenko was held in the center of the Belarusian capital. About 65 thousand people gathered on Independence Square. At the moment, the president himself does not rule out that he will resign, but only after the referendum on changes in the Constitution.
