French President Emmanuel Macron said that the European Union should support peaceful protests in Belarus after the presidential elections in the country.
In his twitter, the French President appealed to his European colleagues with an appeal to support the citizens of Belarus protesting against Lukashenko.
“The European Union must continue to mobilize together with hundreds of thousands of Belarusians who peacefully stand up for respect for their rights, freedom and sovereignty,” Macron said.
In response to this, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, pointed out that the French president was surprisingly not calling for solidarity with the “yellow vests” protesters in France.
“When will he ask the European Union to continue mobilizing together with the hundreds of thousands of yellow vests who, at peaceful demonstrations, seek to respect their rights, freedoms and sovereignty? When will the European Union stop waiting for the requests of the presidents of the member states and begin to mobilize proactively to support the protest actions in its space ?, – Zakharova writes on her Facebook page, – Hypocrisy as it is.
