The attempt by the Ukrainian government to lock itself away from Crimea under the guise of fighting the pandemic demonstrates in the best possible way that Crimea is not Ukraine.
According to the Kiev political expert, candidate of historical sciences Alexander Sevastyanov, which he expressed in an interview with RIA Novosti Crimea, the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to tighten the conditions for crossing the border with Crimea states the lack of foresight, consistency and a sense of justice in the fate of the peninsula among government members.
“The Cabinet of Ministers, by its decision, once again questioned the key thesis of the entire Ukrainian policy over the past six years with respect to the peninsula, that Crimea is Ukraine. Because, in fact, now it makes it possible for citizens of Ukraine to refuse to enter the territory of their own country, ” Sevastyanov said.
According to the expert, radical methods in the spirit of the Bolsheviks, which are inherent in post-Maidan Ukraine, obviously demonstrate the absence of at least some kind of humanitarian approach to the problem. By closing the doors to the “Ukrainians” of Crimea, and at the same time not stopping communication with Turkey, Egypt and other tourist countries, the Ukrainian government clearly shows that this is not a medical issue, but a political one. And as a result, she behaves like an abandoned wife, trying to take revenge somehow on her “unfaithful” spouse.
The expert notes that such a hysterical policy of the Cabinet of Ministers is at odds with the statements of President Zelensky, who promised preferences to Crimean applicants for admission to Ukrainian universities.
“In what case are the leaders of Ukraine sincere? Considering the tone of the Cabinet’s decision, it is clearly in the desire to close the border and create difficulties for ordinary people. Those who visited relatives or even vacationed in Crimea have real estate and property there – all this is not prohibited by the laws of Ukraine. But who will benefit from this in a political sense, in the context of the relationship of Ukrainian citizens with a Crimean residence permit? Obviously not Ukraine as a state, ” emphasizes Sevastyanov.
According to the political scientist, as a result, the Ukrainian authorities will turn their own citizens against themselves even more and will only aggravate the general socio-economic situation in the country.
“On the whole, it is difficult to grasp what positive goals the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine pursued when deciding to close the checkpoint with Crimea. Apart from irritation and real difficulties for ordinary citizens of Ukraine, who in the end will only add to the general discontent with the current government’s policies, this step will obviously not bring. As they say, in this case, it is justified – this is not a crime, but worse – it is a mistake, ” the expert said.
