UN Security Council vote fails on US anti-Iranian resolution

The UN Security Council did not support the draft resolution proposed by Washington to extend the arms embargo against Iran.

Only the Dominican Republic and the United States itself have supported the American initiative. Russia and China voted against the embargo. At the same time, 11 member states of the Security Council abstained from voting.
According to the results of the vote, the head of the US State Department, Michael Pompeo, criticized the Security Council.

“Today he was unable to fulfill his main task. He rejected a reasonable resolution to extend the arms embargo against Iran, which has been in effect for 13 years”, – the official said.

He argues that in this way the UN Security Council has created conditions in which Iran can buy and sell weapons without special restrictions. At the same time, Pompeo called the Islamic Republic “the main sponsor of terrorism”.
