Austria opposes US attempts to block Nord Stream 2

The position of the Austrian government differs from the American one on a number of points. One of them is the sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

This statement was made by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.

He stressed that Vienna opposes US attempts to obstruct the completion of the gas pipeline. According to the official, it would be possible to find a way out of the situation within the framework of negotiations with Washington, but the American administration will not agree to this.

“We would choose the path of bilateral negotiations to find a common solution on this issue”, – the minister said.

As previously reported by News Front, back in December last year, the US Congress, along with the military budget, dragged through a package of sanctions. He touched upon the companies directly involved in construction. When the punitive measures took effect, the Swiss company Allseas, which provided pipelayers and supply vessels, withdrew from the project. Construction was suspended at the final stage.
