The United Kingdom is reintroducing quarantine for those coming from France, the Netherlands and Monaco

Earlier, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that London was obliged to “act ruthlessly” by preventing the spread of the virus.

The British authorities have once again made a two-week quarantine mandatory for persons arriving from the Netherlands, France, Monaco and several other States. This was announced on Thursday on his Twitter page by the British Minister of Transport, Grant Shapes.

“Available data show that, in order to combat the spread of coronavirus, we must remove France, the Netherlands, the Principality of Monaco, Malta and Aruba and the Turks and Caicos [British Overseas Territory in the Atlantic Ocean] from the list of countries with which transport corridors have been opened. If you arrive in the United Kingdom from these countries after 04:00 [06:00 Moscow time] Saturday, you will need to be self-isolated for 14 days”, –  the Minister said.

Earlier French authorities made it clear that they will introduce similar measures if the UK returns the quarantine requirement for those arriving from the territory of the republic. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday said that London is obliged to “act ruthlessly”, preventing the spread of the virus, even if it concerns the nearest neighbors of the kingdom.

Britain is one of the few countries in Europe that has not closed its borders during a pandemic of disease caused by the new coronavirus. However, from June 8, those coming to the UK from abroad are obliged to observe the regime of self-isolation within 14 days. As of 10 July, this requirement ceased to apply to people arriving in the Kingdom from more than 50 countries, including almost all EU countries. Spain was removed from the list on 26 July, Luxembourg on 31 July, Belgium, Andorra and the Bahamas on 7 August.

Countries such as Russia, Iran, China and the U.S. have not yet been exempted – those arriving from these countries are under threat of a fine from the British authorities requiring them to spend two weeks in quarantine.
