24 EU countries opposed US sanctions on Nord Stream 2

In a published note of protest, EU states accuse the US government of violating international law.

According to the German newspaper Welt, citing a document to which representatives of European diplomatic circles have provided access, the European Union sent a note of protest to the US State Department, which banned further Washington’s interference in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

“We can confirm that on August 12, at the invitation of the EU delegation, a demarche on the US sanctions policy was held against the US State Department. 24 EU member states took part in the demarche in a videoconference format”, – Channel 112 quotes European diplomats.

As it became known to the publication, in a note of protest, the EU states accuse the US government of violating international law, in particular in the issue of sanctions aimed at stopping the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The adoption of this document follows the statement by the EU Foreign Affairs Representative Joseph Borrell on the US sanctions policy.

Only three EU countries did not join the protest note, one of which is probably Poland, whose openly pro-American policy in the EU has long been evident.
