The press service of the President of Azerbaijan noted that Aliyev “brought to the attention of the Russian President that the intensity of military supplies to Armenia raises serious questions for the Azerbaijani public.”
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on August 12 expressed Baku’s concern over supplies of military cargo from Russia to Armenia. This was reported by the Aliyev’s press service on Thursday.
“Ilham Aliyev noted that the volume of military cargo delivered immediately after the clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border from Russia to Armenia using the airspace of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran exceeded 400 tons, and stressed that the main purpose of his phone call – to clarify this issue”, – the report said.
The press service added that Aliyev “brought to the attention of the President of Russia that the intensity of supplies of military cargo from Russia to Armenia after July 17 to date, after the clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, causes concern and serious questions to the Azerbaijani public.
It is noted that during the conversation, which took place on the initiative of the Azerbaijani side, the sides also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and expressed mutual desire for further strengthening of the Azerbaijani-Russian partnership in all spheres.
On Wednesday evening, the Kremlin press service reported that during the conversation the two leaders exchanged views on regional issues in the context of the aggravation of the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border in July. The press service added that the Russian side stressed the importance of preventing any actions contributing to the escalation of tension.
