Poland’s foreign minister made a controversial statement, commenting on reports that Warsaw was involved in an attempted coup in Belarus.
As News Front reported earlier, the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that the Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine were involved in the riots in the republic.
The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Jacek Czaputovich, in turn, called the accusations “unfounded.” However, he did not rule out that pro-Western non-governmental organizations based in Poland could indeed be involved in an attempt to overthrow the government in Belarus. Chaputovich also allowed himself to equate the few extremists with the entire Belarusian people. According to him, the actions of the radicals demonstrate that all Belarusians want to “influence the future of their country” in this way.
“The European Union must act to prevent military decisions in Belarus,” the official added. “We expect the authorities of Belarus to stop repressions.”
