President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko explained the situation in the country. He stressed that law enforcement officers do not support the unrest in the country.
He said this at a meeting with the head of the CIS observer mission, Sergei Lebedev.
“The guys from the militia and the military, who were involved, behaved very worthily, real patriots. True, now fakes are throwing in that in some city the guys from the OMON have almost folded their shields. I begin to clarify – an absolute lie. Ordinary, simple guys. They say: “We are not putting the country on shields, we will defend it as much as possible,” Lukashenka said.
In addition, he noted that the police stood up for the representatives of the joint headquarters.
Attempted coup in Belarus
On Sunday, August 9, presidential elections were held in Belarus, following which Alexander Lukashenko won. Western countries, for which the Belarusian leader had been a hindrance for a long time, did not put up with the voting results. As a consequence, pre-planned riots broke out in Belarus last night.
Attempts by law enforcement officers to keep the situation under control turned into clashes with radicals. At the same time, the Western media, actively covering the protests, focus specifically on the actions of the security forces against the “peaceful” protesters, as it was during the coup d’etat in Ukraine in 2014.
At the moment, European countries are on the side of the protesters. They refuse to recognize the election results. Meanwhile, the headquarters of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the leader of the pro-Western opposition, has already announced that it is preparing for prolonged protests aimed at overthrowing the government.
