Bundestag outraged by “daring” threats of American senators

The Bundestag called on the German authorities to threaten the United States with measures for sanctions against Nord Stream 2.

According to the statement released on Friday by the head of the Bundestag (German parliament) committee on economics and energy, Klaus Ernst, the message of US senators with threats to the operator of the German port of Mukran, where the pipes for the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline are stored, cannot be surpassed in impudence. It requires a response from the FRG government.

“This message cannot be surpassed in impudence”, –  the MP said, pointing out that the letter from Senators Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton and Ron Johnson to the management of Faehrhafen Sassnitz GmbH is “a direct threat to the city of Sassnitz and the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania”.

“The behavior of the three senators shows that the previous protest of the FRG government against American actions does not work”, -Ernst believes.

“I urge the FRG government to summon the US ambassador. In addition, it is necessary, finally, to threaten with effective retaliatory measures and, under the circumstances, to take them, for example, by imposing penalties on American LNG”, – said the head of the parliamentary committee.

The Rubicon is clearly crossed, he concluded.
