The Tel Aviv City Hall was illuminated in the colours of the Lebanese flag in solidarity with the people of Beirut, where a powerful explosion struck on 4 August.
The city authorities expressed solidarity with the residents of Beirut, despite the fact that Israel and Lebanon are officially at war.
“On that evening, the city hall will be illuminated in the colours of the Lebanese flag. Humanity is more important than any conflict, and our heart is with the people of Lebanon after a terrible disaster”, – said Mayor Ron Huldayi.
At the same time, Minister for Jerusalem Affairs Rafi Peretz criticized this decision of the Tel Aviv authorities.
“Humanitarian aid can and should be provided to civilians who have suffered in Lebanon, but the Lebanese flag in the center of Tel Aviv is a moral embarrassment,” Peretz said.
