The people understand who is a friend and who is an enemy: Moscow assessed the prospects of Belarus joining NATO

If Belarus becomes a member of the North Atlantic Alliance or the European Union, it will be a tragedy for the Russian people.

The people understand who is a friend and who is an enemy: Moscow assessed the prospects of Belarus joining NATO

This statement was made by a member of the Committee on Defense and Security of the Federation Council of Russia, Franz Klintsevich, commenting on the words of the presidential candidate Andrei Dmitriev.

He argued that he was against the Euro-Atlantic course of Belarus, but also against the deployment of Russian military facilities in the republic.

Klintsevich, in turn, called the Belarusian politician a “dilettante”, pointing out that there are no Russian bases in the republic. Only the military contingent is stationed there, ensuring security within the framework of the Union State.

“Removing them is not such an easy thing as it seems to this amateur,” the senator stressed.

Speaking about the prospects of Belarus joining NATO or the EU, Klintsevich noted that Russia would react to this “extremely negatively”.

“If this happens, it will be a tragedy for the united Russian people. This will mean that we were defeated and divorced. But I am sure that the Belarusian people understand who is a friend and who is an enemy, ” he concluded.
