Media: the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Cypriot Embassy was injured in an explosion in Beirut

A diplomat’s wound is not severe.

A high-ranking Cypriot diplomat was injured in an explosion in Beirut. This was reported by the Cyprus News Agency with reference to the information of the duty officer of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Cyprus in the Lebanese capital, Serj Bu-Samra.

 

What is known of the explosion in the port of Beirut

According to the latter, “the Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy was injured,” but no name of the victim was given. Boos Samra said she was taken to hospital, but stressed that the diplomat’s injury was not severe.

The duty officer also said that the bombing of the Embassy and the residence of the Ambassador of Cyprus had damaged the buildings.

According to the information on the website of the Embassy of Cyprus in Beirut, the only woman who is a senior Cypriot diplomat in Lebanon is Deputy Head of Mission and Consul Helenia Papanikolaou.
