Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab calls for the establishment of a commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Beirut bombing. This was announced on Wednesday by Al Jazeera TV channel.
“We call for the formation of a commission to investigate the Beirut bombing so that the results of the investigation can be made public within 48 hours”, – the channel quoted the prime minister as saying.
Diab also called unacceptable the fact that 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate in a warehouse in Beirut’s port had been stored for six years without taking the necessary precautions.
A powerful explosion occurred on Tuesday near the seaport of Beirut, close to the Lebanese navy base. According to the latest figures, at least 73 people were killed and more than 3,700 injured in the explosion.
