The DPRK on Monday dumped water at a dam near the border with South Korea, without informing Seoul of this in violation of bilateral agreements. This was announced on Tuesday at a briefing by an official representative of the South Korean ministry of association.
“In late July – early August, the North Korean side partially opened the locks in the western part of the inter-Korean border three times and dumped water into the Imjingan River. The South Korean side was not notified about this”, – the official stressed.
According to him, now the water level in the river is 2.99 meters, which is much lower than the critical values. “However, there is a gross violation of the inter-Korean agreement of October 2009, according to which the North is obliged to notify the South in advance about planned water discharges,” said a ministry spokesman, urging Pyongyang to follow its obligations.
