The self-proclaimed “president” of Venezuela, Juan Guaido, despite Washington’s support, was never able to gain the confidence of his own people, and therefore refused to participate in the parliamentary elections.
This is stated in the communique of Guaido’s party “People’s Will”.
Now the National Assembly of Venezuela is under the control of the opposition, but after a series of unsuccessful and scandalous attempts to carry out a coup d’etat in the country, it has lost all chances to enlist the support of the people. Voting is to take place in December this year, but over 25 opposition parties in the country have already refused to participate in the elections.
Guaidó’s party, in turn, tried to shift the responsibility for such a decision onto the government of the republic, calling the parliamentary elections a “hoax.”
“We announce to the Venezuelan people and the international community that we have unanimously decided not to participate in the deception called for by the dictatorship,” the statement said.
As previously reported by News Front, at the beginning of last year, Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido, with the support of the United States, proclaimed himself the “president” of the Bolivarian Republic instead of the elected head of state Nicolas Maduro. Washington immediately recognized Guaido’s legitimacy, forcing many other countries to do so. However, it was not possible to overthrow the Venezuelan government, despite the sanctions pressure.
In desperation, the United States even accused fifteen representatives of official Caracas, including the president, of drug dealing. Washington has appointed a reward for information that will allow the arrest of Venezuelan statesmen.
