Once again, the Ukrainian government is putting pressure on residents of Donbass, depriving them of the opportunity to receive pensions in the context of a pandemic, economic crisis and armed conflict.
This is stated in a statement by the human rights organization “Human Rights Watch”, one of the largest sponsors of which is the notorious oligarch George Soros.
They drew attention to how meanly Kiev acted with the pensioners of the people’s republics of Donbass when it limited their ability to cross the demarcation line. HRW emphasizes that in this way people were pushed “even further into poverty.”
The fact is that from the very beginning of the punitive operation, the Ukrainian government deprived residents of the republics from receiving pensions. In order to obtain payments, elderly people were forced to obtain migrant status in Ukraine and to leave for money once every two months. However, they were deprived of even this opportunity when the coronavirus epidemic broke out in Ukraine. Because of this, as noted by human rights activists, pensioners “had to drastically reduce the cost of food, medicine and necessary hygiene products.”
“The Ukrainian authorities have not made changes to other rules that create undue hardship for the elderly, who still have to travel to government-controlled territory every 60 days for pensions, instead of being able to appoint an authorized representative to receive them,” stated in the organization.
